Discovery and Asset Valuation
It's easy to get caught up in sentimental issues (photo albums, pets and heirlooms) and overlook the larger financial picture. My role it to help determine the value of all marital assets (and debts), and ensure that my client is not taken advantage of in the equitable division of property. I consult with expert evaluators to put accurate dollar values on:
l Homes, vacation homes, condos, timeshares, or other real estate
l Closely-held business interests
l Securities and investments (stocks, bonds, life insurance policies)
l Retirement funds (401(k), IRA, pension)
l Furnishings, artwork, jewelry, vehicles
l Inheritances or trust funds
As an experienced trial lawyer, I know that the other party may attempt to hide assets in anticipation of a looming divorce. I work to discover hidden property and trace sources of income:
l Offshore accounts and cash accounts
l Retitled holdings or investment accounts in other states/countries
l "Gifts" to friends or relatives
l Recent liquidation of assets

DIVISON OF COMPLEX MARITAL ASSETS
Experienced Colorado Property Settlement Attorney
If your divorce involves substantial assets, it is vital to have an attorney familiar with the division of complex marital estates. The Law Offices of Fred Andrew Dunsing has considerable experience in these high-stakes situations. I fight for your fair share, and to hold the other party accountable.
The more assets a couple possesses, and depending on the nature of those assets, the more complicated it can be to determine an equitable marital property division. I represent parties in the Metro Denver, the Front Range, and Vail Valley areas of Colorado. Contact me today to discuss your case and possible legal strategies.

Marital Property and Separate Property
Colorado law presumes that all wealth acquired during the marriage is marital property to be divided. Litigation often centers on which assets are separate property (gifts and/or acquired before the marriage). For example, one spouse starts a business before marrying and it grows into a profitable enterprise during the marriage - how much value is included in the division of assets? Likewise for retirement accounts and other assets. I hold an M.B.A. and have broad experience in litigating these matters.
Equitable Division
Colorado does not require a 50/50 split of assets, only that the division be "equitable." I consider all factors to negotiate or litigate a division that is fair to my client. If the other spouse is keeping the house, for example, my client must be compensated for the equity in the home from other assets. I also consider spousal support/maintenance (alimony) obligations, as well as the division of marital debt.
